In several of my classes, I have used VoiceThread for a collaboration-communication project but have been hesitant to use VoiceThread too much because of 508-issues. This provides peer review to the owner of the project. Then using the lecture materials on evaluating presentations, the students evaluate three presentations of their choice. I do have students in my PowerPoint class “present” their final project to the rest of the students in the class by sending me the presentation, and without any name or other form of identification, I upload them for everyone to view. Since my classes are only 9 weeks long and many involve learning specific skills, I have had a difficult time coming up with “group” project ideas. I’ve also added in the wiki tool in two of my courses for students to collaborate on creation of resource lists. I monitor both to ensure that students are not discussing non-class related items and indicate in both tools that I do this. While I still only give points in one or two discussions for responding to other students’ postings for each class, I have added in projects for student collaboration and, in fact, added in a Student Lounge area and the chat tool for every course.
